Ethical principles for suppliers
At L&T, responsible and ethical practices are fundamental to our operations. L&T's Code of Conduct sets expectations for our employees' responsible and ethical behavior, helping them make the right decisions in their daily work.
L&T and all its employees are committed to adhering to L&T's ethical principles. We also require responsible practices from our partners.
In L&T's procurement agreements, our suppliers of goods and services commit to following L&T's Code of Conduct. At the same time, we expect these requirements to be implemented further down the supply chain.
Self-assessments and audits
Self-assessments and audits are a key part of L&T's supplier evaluation process.
- We monitor our suppliers' compliance through a regular self-assessment questionnaire, which assesses suppliers' practices in governance, environment, occupational health and safety, quality, and supply chain management.
- We participate annually in the international EcoVadis sustainability assessment, which helps us identify and improve our operations while considering various aspects of responsibility. We also encourage our suppliers to participate in the EcoVadis assessment.
- We conduct audits based on a risk assessment. Following the audits, our suppliers receive a separate audit report detailing the identified discrepancies and the associated action plan.
Climate goals across the entire supply chain
L&T's climate goal is to achieve net-zero emissions across the entire value chain by 2045. This will be accomplished in collaboration with our partners. Our objective includes reducing emissions from machinery and transportation subcontracting by 30% by 2030 compared to 2020 levels.
We require significant suppliers in machinery and transportation subcontracting to report the emissions generated during the service period to provide us with a clearer understanding of our overall impact.
Additionally, we strive to find solutions together with our suppliers to reduce emissions from machinery and transportation subcontracting.
Gifts and hospitality in procurement
Our personnel are committed to adhering to the guidelines regarding gifts and hospitality in procurement. These guidelines help us operate responsibly and equitably while avoiding risks related to bribery and conflicts of interest.
- An L&T employee may give or receive a one-time gift from a supplier with a maximum value of €50 or hospitality valued at up to €150.
- The total amount of gifts given to or received from the same supplier in a calendar year must not exceed €100.
- In competitive bidding situations or during other collaboration or contract negotiations, we do not give or receive hospitality.
Safe working practices
We believe that safe business is sustainable business. We want everyone to return home as healthy as they arrived, whether they are our own employees, subcontractors, or other business partners. We require that, just like L&T’s own staff, our suppliers and subcontractors adhere to L&T's safety requirements.
We also encourage them to transparently report safety observations. Through proactive measures, we can positively impact the ability of all—clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and L&T’s own staff—to work safely.
Report misconduct
At L&T, we respect our partners. To ensure good business practices, we want to actively address any misconduct or violations related to our operations.
Through the reporting channel, L&T's suppliers of goods and services can report suspicions of misconduct that may relate to violations of laws or L&T's Code of Conduct.
